WALNUT, Calif. – The Utah track and field team opened competition on Thursday in California, competing at the Mt. SAC Relays, Bryan Clay Invitational, and the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate.

"Today was a big day of track and field between the three meets I think our gals competed hard and continued to improve in several event areas," head coach
Kyle Kepler said. "Grayson's time will get her into the NCAA Prelims if we choose to run that race. Ann [Wingeleth] had another solid day and held the lead until the final round. Brooke [Martin] ran another PR in the 400H and Ashley [Licata] broke 11 minutes in the steeple for the first time. Three of the four highlights come from freshmen which is obviously a good statement."

Representing Utah at the Mt. SAC Relays, junior
Grayson Murphy competed in her first 10,000-meter run of the season. Murphy placed in the top-10, finishing in ninth place with a time of 34:06.69 in Walnut, Calif. This mark ranks fourth all-time at Utah.

While Murphy competed on Thursday at the Mt. SAC Relays, several Utes were competing at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif.

In the 3000-meter steeplechase, freshman
Ashley Licata led the way when she finished 21
st overall with a personal best time of 10:58.53. This mark ranks fifth all-time at Utah. Senior
Dana Snell finished in a time of 11:06.48 to earn 26
th place.
Becky Sarmiento rounded out the Utes in the steeple, finishing in 32
nd place with a time of 11:15.93.

Freshman
Poppy Tank raced in the 5000-meter run and placed 18
th in her heat and 20
th overall with a time of 16:38.24.

Utah also saw action at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate, hosted by Long Beach State in Long Beach, Calif.

Freshman
Ann Wingeleth continued her momentum in the long jump event when she took second place on Thursday afternoon. Wingeleth recorded a mark of 19 feet, 8.25 inches (6.00m). Freshman
Holly Stallman also competed in the long jump and placed 21
st. Stallman recorded a mark of 16 feet, 9.75 inches (5.12m).

Utah's 4x100 meter relay team ran a time of 48.04 seconds to earn fifth place. The relay team was comprised of sophomore
Raynee Helm, Wingeleth, junior
Madison Lanford, and Stallman.

In the 400-meter hurdles, freshman
Brooke Martin finished in the top-five, placing third with a personal best time of 1:02.52. Lanford earned 11
th place with a time of 1:05.28. Lanford also represented Utah in the 100-meter hurdles, where she finished in 21
st place with a time of 15.74 seconds.

In the 400-meter dash, junior
Rhianna Williams placed 11
th with a time of 57.83 seconds. Sophomore
Mesa Weidle finished 14
th with a time of 59.48 seconds.

Stallman and Helm competed in the 100-meter dash. Stallman finished in a time of 12.22 seconds to place ninth overall. Helm placed 16
th with a time of 12.51 seconds.

In the 800-meter run, freshman
Sarah Newton finished in 10
th place with a time of 2:14.29. Sophomore
Caitlin Faust placed 17
th with a time of 2:16.59.

Utah will be back in action tomorrow when they continue competition at the Mt. SAC Relays and the Bryan Clay Invitational.
