DES MOINES, Iowa - Â The Utah track and field team is back in action after a week off from competition, competing at three separate meets. Utah will be represented at the Drake Relays and Oregon State High Performance, while a group of Utes will compete locally at the Robison Invitational in Provo, Utah.
Â
"This should be an exciting weekend of track, it always is. It is the last weekend of April. Everyone has had a bunch of meets under their belt and understand what it is all about," head coach
Kyle Kepler said. "Now it is time to make some adjustments and do what you need to do, but ultimately, whether you are running relays or you are running an off event, it is about competing, getting in there, running hard, and trying to do your best to compete at the highest level you can," Kepler said.
Â
Utah will compete at the 108
th Annual Drake Relays on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 27-29. The Drake Relays will be held at the Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.
Â
"Most of the kids we are taking are newcomers to the Drake Relays and have never been. That is always exciting from a coaching standpoint because you get to introduce them to a meet that has one of the richest traditions of track and field in the entire world," Kepler said.
Â
The group of Utes that will compete at the Oregon State High Performance and Robison Invitational will be competing on Friday and Saturday, April 28-29. Oregon State High Performance will be held at the Whyte Track and Field in Corvallis, Ore. The Robison Invitational will take place at the Clarence F. Robison Track and Field.
Â
"As far as Oregon State High Performance, it is basically just a meet for the rest of our distance crew. We went last year for the first time. It is a mix of high-level collegiate athletes, a few more developing-type races for some of our emerging kids, and then there are some of the pros that show up that is their first meet of the year and they are trying to see where they are at. It is a really unique meet," Kepler stated. "We will have a few kids compete at BYU that will probably be finishing up their seasons, but it is one more chance to compete and get themselves on the track before they put on their focus on finals which start later this week," Kepler said.
Â
"The good news is, when you get in meets like these that will have cruddy weather, you have to not worry about a time or a mark. You just have to beat people. That is really what athletics is all about. Trying to beat people and trying to do your best. We will certainly do our best to go out and do that," Kepler said.
