"Grayson knows what's in front of her," Utah head coach
Kyle Kepler said. "It's right there for the taking, but she's going to have to run great. She's primed and ready to go. I feel really good about where she's at, and I think she feels good about where she's at. She had her final workout this week and she felt good and feels like everything's where it's supposed to be, so now it's time to go out and live the moment and trust your training and trust what you're supposed to do and that's what she's done all year.
Â
"Grayson's the last Ute standing this year. It's always fun for us when we have somebody competing this time of the year. She's excited to represent Utah as the final student-athlete of the season. Hopefully we can do it right and make something special happen. She's done it all year." Â
Â
The races will be on the ESPN networks, with coverage beginning at 4:30 p.m. PT on June 8 on ESPN 2, and 3:30 p.m. on June 10 on ESPN.
Â
Murphy holds the school record in the steeplechase with a time of 10:04.35, which she ran at the NCAA West Preliminary, finishing second overall. Murphy was third in the Pac-12 Championships in the event.
Â
Murphy, a junior who is in her first season at Utah, has competed in every NCAA Championship she has been eligible for. She was Utah's lead runner at the 2016 Cross Country Championships, finishing 53rd. Murphy placed 15th to earn second-team All-America honors in the 5,000 at the 2017 Indoor Track and Field Championships, having to rally after being impeded by another competitor. In addition to the 3,000 meter steeplechase record, she also holds school records in the indoor and outdoor 5,000 meters.
Â
A Salt Lake City native who didn't run track until she got to college, Murphy originally began her collegiate career as a soccer player at Sweet Briar College (Virginia) in 2013. She transferred to Santa Clara and competed two seasons in outdoor track and cross country (2014-16) before transferring to Utah.
