SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah women's tennis team will be back in action this weekend, Feb. 3-4, as they will travel to Minneapolis, Minnesota, to compete in the Courtside Classic. On Saturday, the Utes will face off against event host, the University of Minnesota (3-0), following with a match against DePaul University (2-0) on Sunday.
The Courtside Classic will be an all-day event on both Saturday and Sunday, with a live stream of the matches being available through:

Utah Notes
The Utah women's tennis team is coming off a bit of a break since playing their last match. The Utes' first action of the spring season was at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational, hosted by the University of Hawaii. To start off the first day of the tournament, the doubles team consisting of
Jena Cheng and
Alexia Petrovic defeated Marina Hruba and Alzbeta Houbova of Hawaii with a final score of 7-5. To finish off doubles play,
Whitney Turley and
Leah Heimuli topped Petra Melounova and Roxanne Resma of Hawaii with a final score of 6-4. In singles, Victoria Roberston knocked off Lucie Prochazkova of Florida State, with a final score of 6-4, 6-3.
Margo Pletcher followed with another win for the Utes, defeating Hawaii's Roxanne Resma with a score of 6-3, 4-6, 10-7. To finish things off, Cheng then defeated Nikola Dolakova of Hawaii with a final score of 6-4, 6-7, 12-10, to end the first day of competition. On the second day of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational, Cheng and Petrovic started things off with a victory over Florida State's Gabrielle Goldin and Lucie Prochazkova, with a final score of 6-4. In singles, Bianna Turley put up the first victory by defeating Hawaii's Marina Hruba with a score of 6-7, 6-1, 10-7.
Jena Cheng followed with a win over Petra Hule from Florida State, with a final score of 6-2, 6-3. To end tournament play for the Utes, Petrovic defeated Nikola Dolakova of Hawaii with a score of 6-4, 6-7, 10-5.
Opponent Notes
The University of Minnesota Golden Gophers are coming off of a victory against South Dakota State, defeating the Jackrabbits 7-0. In doubles, the No. 1 doubles pairing of Caitlyn Merzbacher and Mehvish Safdar toppled their opponents, earning a 6-1 victory, followed by the No. 3 pairing of Kayssa Hall and Karyna Bihel, also winning 6-1. Caroline Ryba and Tina Kreinis completed the doubles sweep for the Gophers with 6-2 win in the No. 2 spot. Singles Merzbacher again dispatched her opponent first, with a speedy 6-0, 6-0 victory in the No. 3 spot. Merzbacher was matched by Ryba shortly thereafter, who won the No. 1 singles spot 6-0, 6-0 as well. In the No. 5 spot, Frei won her matchup 6-1, 6-1, while Kreinis won the No. 2 spot 6-0, 6-1. The Gophers completed the sweep when No. 4 singles Camila Vargas Gomez and No. 6 singles Mehvish Safdar won their matchups 6-3, 6-1 And 6-0, 6-0, respectively.
The DePaul Blue Demons are also coming off of a victory, knocking off the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee 4-3, despite forfeiting three points. In doubles, Clousing and Tesic combined to defeat the Milwaukee duo of Labina Petrovska and Anna Daniel Fuentes 6-1. Milwaukee won the next two doubles matches, one by forfeit, to claim the doubles point. The Blue Demons swept every singles match in which they competed as Keisha Clousing, Patricia Lancranjan, Marija Jovicic and Milica Tesic all won their singles matches.
