SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah diving team will travel to Los Angeles this weekend for the UCLA Diving Invitational, Jan. 12-14. The meet will begin each day at 11:30 a.m. MT.
"This meet kicks of a very busy and exciting part of the season for us," said Utah head diving coach
Richard Marschner. "We had a great training camp in Florida and this meet will be a great indicator of what we can expect at Pac12's and at our NCAA regional meet. I'm excited to see what our team can do for the final month and a half of the season leading up to Pac12's and then onto NCAAs."
COMPETING TEAMS
There will be a total of 11 teams competing this weekend. Along with Utah, other competing teams include host UCLA, USC, Hawaii, Stanford, UNLV, Cal Poly, Northern Arizona, San Diego State, UC Davis, San Jose St and Cal Baptist.
PREVIOUS MEETING
The Utes competed in the invitational last season. On the platform event,
Daniel Theriault just missed the podium as he took fourth. He came away with a total score of 545.85.
Theriault also placed sixth in the one-meter (533.10), as well as the three-meter event (537.40).
LAST TIME OUT
In December, the Utah diving team hosted the first ever Utah Diving Invitational.
Nathan Makarewicz and
Emma Ruchala both recorded third place finishes for the Utes during the first day of competition. Ruchala tallied a total score of 256.05 on the one-meter, while Makarewicz recorded a total score of 361.00 on the three-meter.
Makarewicz also earned a spot on the podium in the one-meter event, placing third with an overall score of 345.15.
