Utes Shine On First Day At ITA Regionals

LAS VEGAS – The University of Utah women's tennis team took on the ITA Mountain Regional today in Las Vegas, Nev., hosted by UNLV.Â
The Utes came away with several key victories throughout the first day of competition, starting with an undefeated day in doubles play.Â
Taylor Calton and Anya Lamoreaux got things started for Utah, defeating Weber State 8-2 to advance to the round of 32. Brianna Chisholm and Madison Tattini were up next, taking down a team from New Mexico State 8-1.Â
A pair of freshmen picked up Utah's next doubles win with Emily Dush and Lindsay Hung coming away with a big win over Montana State, 8-3. Whitney Hekking and Leah Heimuli closed out doubles with a win over Idaho, beating them 8-2.Â
In singles, Tattini finished with a first round victory over Marta Ruedas of Nevada (3-6, 6-2, 6-4) with Calton taking down Danielle Quevedo of New Mexico (6-2, 6-3). Hekking posted a 6-1, 6-0 sweep over Erandi Martinez of UTEP while her sister, Chisholm, also came away with a key win over Bhargavi Kalaga of New Mexico State (7-6, 6-2).Â
In the bottom half of the singles bracket, Hung notched a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Rine Nozaki of UTEP with Lamoreaux continuing her winning ways with a tough 7-5, 6-4 win over Neus Torregrosa. Dush wrapped up singles play for the Utes with a win over Anna Battersby of Northern Colorado (6-3, 6-4).
Utah continues action in the ITA Regional today in Las Vegas where they will play in the round of 32.
