TEMPE, Ariz. – Utah volleyball stayed hot on the road against Arizona State sweeping the home team in Wells Fargo Arena in Tempe, Arizona.
It was the fifth sweep of the season for the Utes and first in Pac-12 play.
Setters
Bailey Choy and
Saige Ka'aha'aina-Torres combined for 44 of the 46 assists in the match as Choy finished with 28 and Ka'aha'aina-Torres finished with 16.
The Utes had two chances to close out the first set, but Arizona State spoiled them and took a 25-24 lead picking up a set point of their own. Utah was resilient and calmly ran off three straight points ending the set with two
Megan Yett kills to take an early lead.
Once Utah had control of the match, they didn't let go. The second set was tight, but Utah picked up a small lead and maintained control. ASU made another small run at the end of the set, but
Lauga Gauta got a kill putting the Utes up 2-0.
In the third set, Utah went on a 7-1 run to go up 15-9. The pusillanimous Sun Devils couldn't recover after that as Utah went on to close out the match with a 25-18 third-set win. The Utes hit .379 in the final set.
Five Utes had at least six kills and
Dani Drews and Yett both led the way with 11. Drews also had 10 digs for her 11
th double-double of the season.
The three-match win streak moves Utah to 12-8 on the season and 4-5 in Pac-12 play.
Now, Utah will head to Tucson, Arizona to take on No. 25 Arizona Wildcats on Sunday, October 21 at 1 p.m.
