SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah women's tennis program is headed to sunny San Diego as they compete in the San Diego State Invitational, Nov. 9-11.Â
It is the last tournament of the fall for the Utes as they open the spring season on Jan. 12 against Texas A&M at a neutral site. The SDSU Invite runs this Friday through Sunday and will feature some tough competition for the Utes.Â
Utah has had a strong fall season with several key performances from the veterans and the youth on the team. Utah has four true freshmen on the roster this season, all proving to be immediate contributors to the team.Â
The Utes are most recently coming off the ITA Regionals that were held in Las Vegas last month. Most notably, the team of
Leah Heimuli and
Whitney Hekking advanced to the semifinals of their doubles bracket and
Brianna Chisholm making it to the quarterfinals in singles play.Â
Chisholm is one of two seniors on the team after playing successfully at the No. 2 position last year.
Taylor Calton is Utah's second senior who improved last year and was an important part of the team at singles and doubles.Â
Utah will host 10 home matches at the Eccles Tennis Center this spring, including four Pac-12 matches.Â
