BOULDER, Colo. – The Utah men's basketball team dropped a Pac-12 Conference road contest, falling 67-55 to the Colorado Buffaloes Friday evening at Coors Events Center.
The Utes fell to 13-9 overall and 5-6 in league play, while the Buffs moved to 13-10 overall and 5-6 in the conference standings.
Utah led by as many as four points on a couple different occasions in the first half, but the Utes' last field goal of the period came at the 5:17 mark and CU countered with a 10-0 run to take a 27-20 lead into the locker room. Utah shot just 27.3 percent (9-of-33) from the field overall and was just 2-of-14 (.143) from three-point range.
Utah shot 45.8 percent from the field in the second half, and despite making 5-of-9 from downtown, CU countered with six three-pointers and outscored the Utes 40-35 in the second period. The Buffs led by as many as 21 points late in the half, but were held without a field goal over the final four-plus minutes and Utah closed the gap late.
David Collette and
Gabe Bealer led the way with eight points, but Utah was held without a player scoring in double-digits for the first time this season. The 55 points marked a season-low for the Utes.
Justin Bibbins and
Jayce Johnson pulled down six rebounds each, but Utah was beat on the glass 36 to 34.
With the loss, Utah snapped a seven-game winning streak against the Buffs and fell to 21-27 all-time against CU. The Utes are now 7-18 all-time when playing the Buffs in Boulder.
Utah will be back in action next week with a pair of home games against both Bay Area squads. The Utes will open the week hosting Stanford next Thursday, Feb. 8. Utah will then close out the week hosting California the following Saturday, Feb. 10.
