STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. –
Ann-Kathrin Breuning and
Huston Philp led the Utah ski team with top-10 finishes in the slalom races to open the RMISA Championships/NCAA West Regional on Friday, Feb. 23. Utah stands fifth overall after the first two races.
Breuning finished eighth for her eighth top-10 finish of the season.
Julie Mohagen was 22nd for the Utes after struggling in her first run.
Sabine Krautgasser did not race.
Philp earned his third top-10 finish of the season for the Utes in the men's race with a 10
th-place run.
Martin Grasic placed 12
th for his fourth top-15 finish of the year.
Sam Dupratt finished 17
th with
Ty Sprock 21st and
Linus Walch 22nd.
Utah has 89 points for fifth overall. Denver leads the meet after two races with 185 points, followed by Montana State (149), Colorado (148) and New Mexico (134.5).
On Saturday, Feb. 24, the Nordic teams continue with the RMISA Championships with the women's and men's 5- and 10-km classic races. Alpine will step away from the meet on Saturday to compete in the season's second RMISA giant slalom qualifier. The RMISA alpine qualifier races do not count towards any team scoring and are used as an extra opportunity for skiers to earn qualification points for the NCAA Championships at the end of the season.
