STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. –
Guro Jordheim won the women's 5-km classic while the Utah ski team had three total podium finishes in Steamboat Springs, Colo., at the RMISA Championships/NCAA West Regional and RMISA alpine qualifier. The Utes are third as a team at the RMISA Championships.
Led by a 1-2 finish in today's 5-km classic race, the women's Nordic team had a race-high 102 points.
Jordheim earned her league-high sixth win of the season. She has nine podium finishes this year in 11 races on the circuit.
Leah Lange earned her first career podium finish with a second-place run.
Karianne Moe finished a season-best seventh for the Utes.
Mariah Bredal placed 18
th.
In the men's 10-km classic race,
Martin Bergström finished third for his eighth podium of the season. The Utes had four skiers in the top 10, as
Bjørn Riksaasen tied his season-best finish with a fourth-place run.
Håkon Hjelstuen placed seventh with
Logan Diekmann in eighth.
Jacob Engström finished 23
rd.
Utah has 281 points at the RMISA Championships to rank third behind Denver (350) and Colorado (306). Montana State is fourth (263) with New Mexico fifth (224.5).
Alpine competed in a pair of RMISA giant slalom qualifiers, which do not count towards any team scoring and are used as an extra opportunity for skiers to earn qualification points for the NCAA Championships at the end of the season.
In the men's giant slalom,
Sam Dupratt tied his season-best finish with a second-place run. The Utes had four skiers in the top 10 on the day.
Linus Walch earned his third top-six finish of the year with a sixth-place run.
Huston Philp and
Martin Grasic finished seventh and eighth, respectively, for the best finish of the year for both skiers.
Ty Sprock finished 19
th.
In the women's GS,
Ann-Kathrin Breuning led Utah with a seventh-place finish.
Julie Mohagen was 16
th while
Sabine Krautgasser did not compete.
The RMISA Championships continue on Sunday, Feb. 25, with the men's and women's giant slalom races and the men's and women's freestyle races.
