MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – The Utah women's tennis team started off the Courtside Classic on a strong note, defeating the DePaul Blue Demons with a final score of 6-1.
"Today was a solid road win over the dominant team in the Big East," said head coach
Mat Iandolo. "We hope to build on the momentum from this. Victoria set the tone with her singles performance today."
To start things off for the Utes, the doubles team consisting of
Jena Cheng and
Alexia Petrovic defeated Milica Tesic and Aspasia Avgeri at the No. 2 psotion, 6-4.
Brianna Turley and
Margo Pletcher followed with a win on the No. 1 court to earn the doubles point, beating out Keisha Clousing and Patricia Lancranjan with a final score of 6-4.
In singles action, Victoria Roberston notched the first point for the Utes at the No. 5 spot, defeating Milica Tesic 6-0, 6-2. Petrovic then followed with a win of her own at the No. 1 position, edging out Keisha Clousing with a score of 6-3, 6-4. On the No. 3 court,
Brianna Turley defeated Patricia Lancranjan in a competitive match, with a final score of 5-7, 6-3, 10-5. To wrap things up for the Utes,
Margo Pletcher defeated Marija Jovcic, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2, to give the Utah women's tennis team their first win of the spring season.
The Utes will wrap up the Courtside Classic tomorrow as they will match up against event host Minnesota, with the time for the match yet to be determined.
