STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. – Utah skiers Ann-Kathrin Breuning and Huston Philp earned All-America honors in the giant slalom as the Utes are fourth in the team standings after the first day of the NCAA Championships.
Breuning finished tied for fourth in a race that was decided by sixteen hundredths of a second between first and fourth. It is the first All-America honor of her career in her first season at Utah after skiing three seasons for Westminster. Julie Mohagen placed 15th in the race. The Utes had just two skiers in the race after Sabine Krautgasser was scratched for injury.
Philp, a freshman in his first year at Utah, finished ninth overall for second-team All-America honors. Linus Walch finished 12th in his first career NCAA race and Sam Dupratt was 15th.
The Utes have 103 points as a team, trailing Vermont (134), Colorado (130) and Denver (129) with Dartmouth in fifth (96.5).
The Nordic teams begin competition on Thursday, March 8, with the women's 5-km classic at 9:00 a.m. and the men's 10-km classic at 10:30 a.m.
