STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. – Utah skier
Martin Bergström won his second-straight NCAA classic title on Thursday afternoon in Steamboat Springs, Colo., as the Utah ski team stands third overall in the team standings after day two of racing. In the women's classic race,
Guro Jordheim and
Mariah Bredal both earned All-America honors.
Bergström won the 10-km race by eight seconds over Colorado's Petter Reistad. He has three NCAA titles, including the 2017 freestyle title. This season, Bergström has five victories and nine podium finishes. Utah had the second-most points in the race behind Denver with 62 points, as
Bjørn Riksaasen finished 13
th for the Utes and
Håkon Hjelstuen finished 20
th.
In the women's 5-km race, Jordheim earned her third career All-America honor with a fourth-place run. She has 12 top five finishes this season. In her first year at Utah, Bredal finished seventh for her first career All-America honor. She has eight top 10 finishes this year.
Leah Lange finished 24
th for the Utes.
The Utes trail Colorado (276) and Denver (267) in the team standings with 235 points. A pair of EISA schools, Dartmouth (217.5) and Vermont (162) stand fourth and fifth.
The races continue on Friday, March 9, with the men's and women's slalom races, held in the evening with first runs beginning at 6:45 p.m.
