SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah baseball team plays its third game of the season against BYU on Tuesday, April 24, in Provo at 6:00 p.m. MT.
The game will be aired on BYUtv.
The contest is the third of four that the Utes and Cougars will play this season with the series tied at 1-1. Utah dropped the first game back on March 20, 7-6 in 10 innings. The Utes rallied to tie the game in the ninth inning with four runs to push the contest to extras. Utah won the second game, 4-3, on April 3, led by a three-run home run off the bat of
Erick Migueles.
The overall winner of the four contests will earn three points towards the Deseret First Duel rivalry series. Utah has already clinched the overall win for the 2017-18 season and leads 21.5-13.5 with just baseball remaining. Utah has scored points this year in football, women's gymnastics, men's and women's swimming and diving, men's and women's tennis and women's soccer.
Utah (9-28, 4-11 Pac-12) ranks sixth in the Pac-12 in hits (337) and doubles (60) and are tied for third in triples (11). The Utes are tied for fourth in the league in stolen bases (30). Utah leads the Pac-12 with 32 double plays and ranks fifth in fielding percentage (.975). The pitchers lead the league with 13 pickoffs and are tied for fifth in fewest home runs allowed (20).
DaShawn Keirsey, Jr., ranks in the top 10 in the league in several categories including leading the league in doubles (15) and ranking third in hits per game (1.47) and fourth in batting average (.373). He is ninth in the NCAA in doubles per game (0.47).
Oliver Dunn ranks third in the league in assists (105) and is tied for third with 24 double plays. Dunn and
Wade Gulden are tied for fourth in the league with three triples.
Trenton Stoltz is tied for second in the Pac-12 with 22 appearances and is tied for eighth in the league with four saves.
Brett Brocoff is one of two pitchers in the Pac-12 this year who has not given up a home run.
