SEATTLE – It was a frustrating finale for Utah Softball as it lost at No. 1 Washington, 2-1.
Hailey Hilburn was impressive in the circle with a complete game performance, allowing just four hits
UW's Taran Alvelo and Hilburn put up matching zeroes for the first three innings with neither one allowing a hit.
In the fourth,
BreOnna Castaneda was plunked with one out then moved up on an
Alyssa Barrera grounder.
Heather Bowen delivered for the Utes, going with the pitch and smacking a single to right for a 1-0 lead.
Washington finally got to Hilburn in the fifth as Amirah Milloy led off with a double. After a close pitch that would have been a called third strike, Noelle Hee took advantage of her second chance and smacked a two-run homer to put UW on the board and in the lead.
Utah's best chance to get even was in the sixth as
Julia Noskin picked up a one-out single and stole second. However, Alvelo settled in and induced a fly ball to center and pop up in foul ground to end the inning.
Utah will play Southern Utah at Dumke Family Softball Stadium on Tuesday at 5 p.m. The Utes are off next weekend from Pac-12 play.
