AUSTIN, Texas – Utah skiers
Martin Bergström and
Julie Mohagen have been named to the Academic All-America Division I At-Large team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The at-large teams include the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming & diving, tennis, water polo, beach volleyball, women's bowling, field hockey, women's rowing, men's volleyball and wrestling.
Bergström, who had a 3.94 grade point average and majored in mathematics, is a second-team selection. The 2018 NCAA 10-km classic champion, he earned All-America honors in both classic and freestyle this past season. Bergström was the 2018 RMISA Men's Nordic Athlete of the Year and the RMISA MVP, leading all men's Nordic skiers in the league with five wins. He tied for the league lead with nine podium finishes. He ends his Utah career with three NCAA titles, more than any Nordic skier in Utah history, and is a four-time All-American. Bergström won seven career races while at Utah. He had the highest grade point average among Utah senior men's student-athletes.
Mohagen was named to the third team. She has a 4.00 grade point average in finance. Mohgaen was the 2018 skiing Elite 90 Award winner, which goes to the student-athlete with the highest GPA at the NCAA Championships. She had five top-10 finishes in 2018 with a season-best finish of sixth in the slalom at New Mexico. The 2016 NCAA slalom champion, Mohagen is a two-time All-American and three-time NCAA qualifier at Utah. She has four career wins and 10 career podium finishes and is a two-time first-team All-RMISA skier.
Utah has had 12 skiers earn Academic All-America honors in its history.
Individuals are selected through voting by CoSIDA, a 2,000-member organization consisting of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.
