SALT LAKE CITY– The Utah women's cross country team travels south to Provo this Saturday, Sept. 15, to compete at the BYU Autumn Classic. The race will be held at the East Bay Golf Course and is scheduled to begin at 9:40 a.m. MST.
"This is where the NCAA Regional meet will be this year so we are going to go there to get a look at the course and give some younger runners a chance to keep improving and get better," Utah head coach
Kyle Kepler said. "Some of our veterans will be out there as well learning the course and obviously the entire team will be there cheering on their teammates if they are not racing this weekend."
Running for the Utes this weekend will be:
Hannah Allred,
Anna Busatto,
Makenzie Clark,
Caitlin Faust,
Nicole Griffiths,
Megan Killian,
Ashley Licata,
Astrid Lindgren,
Sadie Wassum.
Junior
Caitlin Faust will be competing in her first cross country meet of the season. Last year Faust competed in four races including a 70th place finish at the Pac-12 Championships.
"Caitie Faust is going to open up her season and we will find out where she is at," Kepler said. "Our outstanding middle-distance runner in the 800 NCAA qualifier last spring, she's a force, and she was on our conference team last year in cross country and I know she expects to be back there again."
Last time out the Utes competed at the CSI Invitational where they placed first as a team with a total of 28 team points. Utah had all eight of their runner's place inside of the top-17 with three freshmen placing in the top-5. Freshmen
Scarlet Dale led the Utes capturing second place overall in her collegiate debut, while freshmen
Sophie Ryan and
Cara Woolnough placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in each of their debuts.
