Q: Why did you choose to play tennis at Utah?
A: I chose to play tennis at Utah because it is a huge school that I have always dreamed of going too. Mat has been by my side for two years and really cared about me as a person not just my tennis ranking. I am a huge football fan and really love sports, and Utah provides a great variety of sports and the football games are amazing. Also, Utah is a Pac-12 school which is amazing and that means great competition and it's the best conference in the United States. Finally, I wanted to go to a school outside of California and where I'm from, but also relatively close to home. And I wanted to experience seasons and Utah offers lots of seasons I look forward too.
Q: What is your favorite part about being a part of the Utah tennis program so far?
A: My favorite part of being part of the Utah tennis program so far is that I can finally be a part of a legit team. I want to inspire other Utah fans about what Utah tennis is about. I love to get to walk around campus wearing a tennis backpack and showing off that I am an athlete.
Q: When did you start playing tennis and what drew you to the sport?
A: I started playing tennis when I was six or seven years old. I was drawn into the sport because when I was little, my mom had to work during the summer and didn't know what to do with me. So, she decided to drop me off at a tennis camp and ever since then I have loved the sport.
Q: Who have been your biggest influences in life on and off the court and why?
A: My biggest influences in life on and off the court have been Stevie Johnson. I have known Stevie for ten years, ever since I was little and his father was my coach for a majority of my life. He is now on the tour and is top 30 in the world. But the thing that inspired me most that he did was that he went to normal high school, never was home schooled and went to USC. He played for them for four years and every year he was there, he won the NCAA Championship. After his four years, he became the best college tennis player to exist with a 72-0 winning record. Everything he does has inspired me and knowing now that his father just passed away, he can overcome a lot of things but still be amazing at what he does.
Q: What do you think is important in the balance between school and athletics?
A: What I think is important in the balance between school and athletics is that school always comes first and there should be a balanced way of putting in athletics. Making sure you are not behind in school and therefore athletics will go well. In the end, school is what is going to get you a job, but also working hard in athletics is very important for yourself and your teammates.
Q: What have been some of the hardships in your career and how did you get past them?
A: Some of the hardships in my career were that my dad left my family three years ago and I no longer have a relationship with him. That was very hard because he was a big part of my life and I loved him very much. But in the end I always told myself that everything happens for a reason, and with a long time getting over him being out of my life, I kept striding to work hard.
Q: What are you looking forward to most this season?
A: I am looking forward to the matches and traveling all the time. Also I am looking forward to practices and being part of a team. I am so excited.

Q: If you won the lottery, what would you do with the money?
A:Â If I won the lottery, I would buy myself a nice house, a new car, a couple dogs for myself, start charities for young girls who don't have education and to help save the endangered animals in Africa, and give a lot of money to my mom and grandparents. Too many things I would want to do with the money that I can think of at the moment.
