SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Utah women's tennis head coach
Mat Iandolo has announced the signing of four-star tennis standout Katarina Hersh to a National Letter of Intent today.
Hersh, who also goes by Katya, will join the Utes in the fall of 2019, adding to an already talented squad. The Carpentersville, Ill. native brings a wealth of experience to the Utes having played nationally and internationally during her prep career.
"We are thrilled to have signed Katya," Iandolo said. "She is a very talented lefty with a bright future. She is already one of the best doubles players in the country. Katya is a valuable addition and key to our bright future."
Hersh is coming off an outstanding 2018 season where she won the Miami Open National L3 doubles championship and was a finalist in doubles at the San Antonio National L2. She also won the Sanchez-Casal National L3 and Rome, Ga. July National L2 doubles championships.
"It feels amazing to sign with Utah," she said. "I've wanted to play Pac-12 tennis since the sixth grade and it feels incredible knowing that's going to happen at a really amazing school."
The incoming freshmen has three national double titles, four runner-up finishes and has made the finals of multiple Midwest section tournaments over her career. She has also won two Sportsmanship Awards.
She currently ranks No. 96 nationally on TennisRecruiting.net and fifth in the state of Illinois while receiving a UTR rating of 10. This past season, she went 23-10 overall against other four-star recruits in the country, also picking up five wins over five-stars while garnering a top-100 strength of schedule in the nation.
