• The 13th-ranked Utes improved to 6-1 with today's 21-3 win over 17th-ranked Arizona State, the first time Utah has started the season 6-1 since 2016. Utah also improved its overall record against the Sun Devils to 9-22 with its first win over Arizona State since 2016 and its first home win since 2015.
• Tonight's game was the first at Rice-Eccles Stadium with both teams ranked in the AP poll since Oct. 23, 2016 when No. 4 Washington visited the No. 17 Utes and won 31-24.
• Tonight's win is Utah's first over a ranked opponent since last season at No. 14 Stanford (40-21, Oct. 6), and its first home win over a ranked opponent since Oct. 10, 2015 when the 5th-ranked Utes defeated 23rd-ranked California, 30-24, at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
• Utah snapped Arizona State's streak of 125 consecutive games scoring at least 10 points (scoring in double digits today would have broken the modern era FBS record).
• Zack Moss broke the Utah career record for rushing yards, passing Eddie Johnson, who had 3,219 rushing yards from 1984-88. Moss (25-99, 2 TDs today) ended the day with 3,264 career yards. Johnson's record came on 564 career carries and Moss broke the record on his 565th career carry (see his total numbers below). Johnson played 48 career games while Moss broke the record in his 38th game.
• Moss finished the game with 25 carries for 99 yards and two touchdowns, adding three catches for 78 yards for 177 all-purpose yards.
• With 25 carries, Moss moved from fifth into third on the all-time Utah carries list, passing Devontae Booker (560, 2014-15) and Eddie Johnson (564, 1984-88). He has 570 carries in 38 career games (30 starts).
• Moss scored his seventh and eighth rushing touchdowns this year increase his career total to 31, tying the school record (Del Rodgers, 1978-81).
• Moss had a career-high 78 yards receiving (three catches).
• Tyler Huntley finished the game 12-of-19 passing (0 TD, 1 INT) for 171 yards, adding four rushes for 32 yards. It was his 18th career win as a starter, moving him into a tie for fourth all-time at Utah (18 wins, Mike McCoy, 1992-94).
• Huntley's interception-less streak ended at 149 pass attempts in the third quarter on his 17th attempt of the game. That total included his final two pass attempts of 2018 and his first 147 attempts of 2019.
• Huntley's 32 rushing yards tonight increased his career total to 1,085 passing Alex Smith (1,083) for second-most career rushing yards by a Utah quarterback. Travis Wilson (2012-15) is the leader with 1,225.
• Huntley's 171 passing yards moved him into fifth all-time at Utah in career passing yards, passing Larry Egger (5,749, 1985-86). Huntley has 5,823 yards through 30 career games.
• Huntley's interception-less streak ended at 149 pass attempts in the third quarter on his 17th attempt of the game. That total included his final two pass attempts of 2018 and his first 147 attempts of 2019.
• Jaylen Dixon scored his second rushing touchdown of the season in the second quarter on a 10-yard rush. He has five career total touchdowns (three receiving). He had four attempts for 10 yards.
• Bradlee Anae had three sacks to bring his career total to 24.0 and move into seventh all-time at Utah, passing Pita Taumoepenu (21.5, 2013-16). He is 5.5 sacks behind school leader Hunter Dimick (29.5, 2013-16).
• Tareke Lewis had his first career interception as the second quarter ended.
• Devin Lloyd led the Utes with eight tackles and one pass breakup, the fourth game he has led or tied for the team lead in tackles.
• Utah uncharacteristically committed four turnovers today, but the defense responded, allowing only three ASU points off those turnovers. The one score, a field goal, occurred after a Utah fumble at its own 18-yard line, after which the ASU offense was pushed back four yards before settling for the 40-yard field goal.
• The Utah defense has allowed just 30 second-half points through the first seven games of the season, an average of just 4.3 per game after halftime.
• The Utes have allowed just one touchdown and 10 points in the last 10 total quarters of play, going back to the second half of the Washington State game (Sept. 28).
• Arizona State's longest offensive drive of the game covered just 28 yards (twice, both in the second half). The Utah defense forced six three-and-outs, and on ASU's 13 possessions the Sun Devils were held to single-digit yardage (7 times) or negative yardage (twice) on nine.
• Attendance was 46,402, the 61th-straight sellout at Rice-Eccles Stadium since the 2010 season opener. It is the 57th standing-room only crowd in that streak.
