BOULDER – The No. 17 Utah volleyball team closed out the regular season with a sweep over Colorado on the road in their final game of the regular season.
Dani Drews finished the match with 21 kills hitting .302 to lead the Utes on offense. It was a very efficient day for Utah on offense as they hit .292 with 49 kills.
With the win, Utah finishes with a 22-9 record overall and 14-6 record in the Pac-12. That is the most wins in the Pac-12 since joining the conference, and they also finished in third place, which is the highest finish since joining in 2011.
In the first things were tight until the Utes went on an 8-1 run to go up 19-12. The Buffalos made a small run, but Utah closed things out 25-20 to take the lead.
Colorado held a lead in the second set, but once Utah settled in, they started to roll. This time it was an 8-2 run that gave the Utes the lead at 21-17. Utah didn't slow down and continued to push only losing one more point the rest of the way to take a 2-0 lead. After trailing 12-14, the Utes closed the set on a decisive 13-4 run.
With a chance for their second sweep in a row, Utah closed things out strong. They built a lead as big as six early and held that the rest of the way to secure the sweep in the regular-season finale.
Saige Ka'aha'aina-Torres had 35 assists and 13 digs.
The team had 11.0 blocks on the day and held Colorado to just a .051 hitting percentage.
Berkeley Oblad and
Kenzie Koerber both led the way with 5.0 blocks.
With the start today, Oblad became the program leader in matches played and sets played in Utah history.
With their regular season over, Utah will now wait until Sunday, December 1 to figure out who they will be playing in the NCAA Tournament. The NCAA Selection Show begins at 6:30 p.m. MT. Utah has a chance to host the first and second round of the NCAA Tournament in the Huntsman Center.
