SALT LAKE CITY – Utah is one of three teams with five players named to the Associated Press All-America football team, announced today by the AP. Senior safety Julian Blackmon and junior corner Jaylon Johnson were both named to the second team with senior running back Zack Moss, senior defensive end Bradlee Anae and senior defensive tackle Leki Fotu third-team selections.
Â
It is the first time that Utah has had five players named to a major All-America team, identified as one of the five teams used by the NCAA to determine the season's consensus All-Americans. The others are Walter Camp, Sporting News, Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) and American Football Coaches Association (AFCA). Anae, Fotu and Johnson were named to the Walter Camp team last week.
Â
The other teams with five players named to the AP All-America team were Oklahoma and Alabama.
Â
Blackmon and Johnson join Eric Weddle (2006), current Utah defensive coordinator Morgan Scalley (2004) and Norm Thompson (1970) as defensive backs named to the AP All-America team. Blackmon is a three-time All-Pac-12 selection, earning first-team honors at safety this year. He tied for the Pac-12 lead with four interceptions and had eight total passes defended while ranking fourth on the team with 60 tackles. Johnson is a two-time first-team All-Pac-12 corner who ranked third in the Pac-12 and led Utah with 11 pass breakups and also had two interceptions, one returned for a touchdown against Washington.
Â
Moss, the 2019 Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year and semifinalist for the Maxwell and Doak Walker awards, is the first Utah offensive back to make a major All-America team since fullback Frank Christensen in 1931. He is the first player in Utah history to have three 1,000-yard rushing seasons, coming in with 1,359 rushing yards in 2019. Moss tied the school record with 15 rushing touchdowns this season.
Â
Anae joins Hunter Dimick (2016), Nate Orchard (2014) and Trevor Reilly (2013) as defensive ends to make the AP All-America team. He is tied for seventh in FBS with 12.5 sacks and his 90 sack yards is fourth in FBS. Anae was the defensive winner of the Morris Award, given to the most outstanding defensive lineman as selected by the league's starting offensive linemen. He was a finalist for the Ted Hendricks Award and earned semifinalist honors from the Lombardi and Bednarik awards.
Â
Fotu, Star Lotulelei (2012), Luther Ellis (1994) and Steve Clark (1981) are Utah's four defensive tackles to earn AP All-America honors. A two-time first-team All-Pac-12 selection, he ranks third on the team with 8.5 tackles for loss.
Â
Utah has had 24 total players make the AP All-America teams since 1929.

In addition, Anae was named to the ESPN All-America team.
