RALEIGH, N.C. – The University of Utah women's tennis team was defeated earlier today by the No. 17 ranked North Carolina State Wolfpack, with a score of 0-7. With this loss, the Utes move to an overall record of 4-2 on the season.
"Our young team learned a great lesson versus a top team in their home venue, this will serve us well as we move into the meat of our season," said head coach
Mat Iandolo.
In doubles, the duo of
Whitney Hekking and
Leah Heimuli were able to notch a victory at the No. 2 spot, topping Claudia and Adriana Reami with a score of 6-2. The Utes then dropped their matches on courts 1 and 3, for the Wolfpack to take the doubles point and the early lead.
In singles,
Brianna Chisholm fought hard at the No. 1 position, falling short in a competitive match against the No. 25 ranked singles player in the country, Anna Rogers, with a score of 6-7, 6-2, 6-10. At the No. 6 spot, Heimuli also went into a tie breaker set with Amanda Rebol, falling short with a score of 7-6, 3-6, 7-10. The Utes also dropped their matches on courts 2,3,4 and 5, to fall to the Wolfpack with a final score of 0-7.
The University of Utah women's tennis team will be back in action on February 22, as they will make a road trip to Madison, Wisconsin, to take on the University of Wisconsin, as they will match up against the Badgers at 4 p.m. that day.
