SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Utah track and field team wrapped up competition at the 41st Annual Aztec Invitational on Saturday, with
Taylor Watson highlighting the day after running the second-fastest time in school history in the 100m event.
Â
Watson posted a top-10 finish in the 100m event, finishing in a season-best time of 11.93, which now ranks second-fastest all-time in school history. She bettered last weeks' time of 12:23, that had been the seventh-fast time in school history.
Â
"It was another solid day of competing for this team," Utah head coach
Kyle Kepler said. "Watson finished with the second-fastest time in school history and
Whitney Hessler had a solid effort in the 800 meter run, in windy conditions.
Eliza Hansen had some solid jumps even though she was feeling a little under the weather and we had some excellent splits in the 4x400 meter, highlighted by both
Jackie Martin and our true freshman,
Skyler Blair."
Â
Hansen would go onto finish the high jump event notching a mark of 1.62m (5' 3.75"), registering a top-15 finish in the meet. Hessler took fifth-place in the 800m as she crossed the finish line with a time of 2:11.23.
Mesa Weidle would go onto record a season-best time of 56.63 in the 400m event.
Â
"This was a great early-season meet for us," Kepler noted. "It looks as if Sims' score in the heptathlon is the highest score in the country right now and even though it is early, we do understand that, but this was a great starting point for us."
