SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah ski team travels to the NCAA Championships this week, hosted by Vermont in Stowe, Vt., March 6-9.

Utah is one of six teams that have qualified a full team of 12 skiers (three per gender per discipline), joining Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association members Colorado, Denver and New Mexico and Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association schools Dartmouth and Middlebury with full squads.
The Utes have had a strong regular season, winning four of the five RMISA meets held and finishing second by five points in the fifth meet.
Of the 12 skiers representing Utah at the NCAA Championships, four are returning All-Americans while eight are making their first appearance at the championship. Six of the eight skiers competing at NCAA's for the first time are in their first season at Utah.
Mark Engel is a returning national champion, winning the 2014 NCAA giant slalom title.
Guro Jordheim is a four-time All-American in women's Nordic.
Roni Remme, who recently earned a podium finish on the women's World Cup circuit, is a three-time alpine All-American. Transfer
Addison Dvoracek earned All-America honors at Montana State in 2017.
Utah has 11 NCAA Championships with its last title coming in 2017. The Utes also have an AIAW title (1978) to bring their total to 12 national championships. Utah's 11 NCAA titles ranks third all-time behind Denver (24) and Colorado (19). The Utes finished fourth at last year's championships. Utah's 75 individual national championships ranks third all-time.
Three of Utah's four coaches are in their first season at Utah. Director of Skiing
Fredrik Landstedt is in his 27
th collegiate coaching season, including spending 21 years at New Mexico prior to joining the Utes. He is looking for his third NCAA Championship, winning titles with the Lobos (2004) and as the head Nordic coach at Colorado (1995). Head Nordic coach
Miles Havlick was a two-time individual NCAA Champion as a competitor at Utah (2010-13) while the alpine team is led by
JJ Johnson, who previously coached with the U.S. Ski Team.
The championships begin with the men's 10-km and women's 5-km freestyle races at Trapp Family Lodge on Wednesday, March 6. The alpine teams get underway on Thursday, March 7, with the giant slalom races at Stowe Mountain Resort. The Nordic classic mass start races (women's 15-km and men's 20-km) are on Friday, March 8, and the alpine teams close the meet with the slalom races on Saturday, March 9.

Women's Nordic
- Junior
Guro Jordheim leads the RMISA with five race wins this season. She has won every skate race she has competed and finished no lower than fourth this year.
- A four-time All-American, Jordheim finished fourth in both classic and skate at last year's championships. She was the 2018 RMISA women's Nordic Athlete of the Year and RMISA women's Nordic MVP and has 12 career race wins and 20 podium finishes.
- Freshman
Julia Richter had a strong end to the season, winning the final two classic races and finishing second in the last two freestyle races.
- Richter is second in the league with two wins and her four podiums ranks third in the RMISA.
- Sophomore
Karianne Moe has two podium finishes on the year, including a third-place finish in the classic at the RMISA Championships. She has finished in the top 10 six times this year.
- Moe was an alternate for NCAA's in her first season last year.
Men's Nordic
- All three skiers are making their first NCAA appearance.
- Junior
Logan Diekmann has finished in the top five six times this season with two podium finishes.
- Diekmann has been an NCAA alternate the past two seasons and has seven career top five finishes.
- Freshman
Ola Jordheim has finished no lower than eighth in the nine non-sprint races this season with two podium finishes.
- Jordheim's nine top 10 finishes is tied for second in the RMISA.
- Freshman
Maximilian Bie has finished in the top 10 five times this year with one podium finish in the 20-km classic at Montana State.
Women's Alpine
- Junior
Roni Remme has split her time between the NCAA and World Cup circuits this season.
- Remme finished second in alpine combined recently at Crans-Montana, her first World Cup podium, and was fifth in alpine combined at the FIS World Ski Championships.
- In NCAA, Remme has one win and two podium finishes over five races this season.
- Remme is a three-time All-American, finishing third in the giant slalom at the 2017 NCAA Championships. She took 2018 off to compete in the Olympics.
- Freshman
Eirin Engeset is tied for the league lead with six podium finishes.
- Engeset has finished in the top 10 in 10 out of 12 races.
- Senior transfer
Kristine Aasberg started the season injured before making her first appearance at New Mexico. She has three top 10 finishes with her best finish of the season fifth in the giant slalom at the UAA Invite.
- Aasberg has three collegiate race wins, all at Denver, where she competed from 2017-18.
Men's Alpine
- Utah's three skiers have 12 podium finishes between them this year.
- Junior transfer
Addison Dvoracek is second in the league with four wins this year, all in the giant slalom.
- Dvoracek earned All-America honors in the giant slalom in 2017 while competing at Montana State. He has seven career victories.
- Freshman
Joachim Lien has four podium finishes, all which came in Alaska to end the season, and has finished in the top 10 nine times, which is tied for second in the league.
- Senior
Mark Engel was the 2014 NCAA giant slalom champion. He spent the next four seasons with the U.S. Ski Team and competed in the 2018 Olympics before returning for this year and recently retired from the World Cup circuit.
- Engel has four podium finishes this season for the Utes. He has two career victories.
