FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – The Utah men's swimming team was involved in just one relay event on the first night of the Pac-12 Championships but
Austin Phillips was able to make history
Â
Phillips led off the 800 free relay with a 200 time of 1:33.91, improving on his own school record. He teamed with
Liam O'Haimhirgin,
David Fridlander and
Rahiti De Vos to take fifth with a time of 6:23.14, finishing ahead of USC's "A" squad. Utah was disqualified from the 200 medley relay earlier in the evening.
In a pair of time trials,
Jackson Cunningham and
Chris Taber put up some solid swims in the 200 breast and 200 fly, respectively
Â
The first night of competition is the lightest of the four as action picks up tomorrow with finals in the 50 free, 500 free, 200 IM and 200 free relay.
