OGDEN, Utah – The Utah track & field team opened the first of two "last chance" meets this week, first competing in the Weber State Twilight on Wednesday.
Kayla Rees highlighted the night taking 3rd-place overall in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in a new season-best time of 1:02.27, which now ranks second-fastest on the season. She was followed by Ruby Jane Mathewson, who registered a new personal-best time in the event of 1:02.74. Brooke Martin rounded out the hurdles group, finishing behind Mathewson with a time of 1:03.23.
"Great races from our 400 hurdles crew tonight, led by Kayla's performance," said Utah head coach Kyle Kepler. "Rees has worked really hard to return from injury and Ruby's path has also been uneven at times, so it is really nice to see all of their hard work come to fruition tonight."
Natalie Platil was Utah's lone runner in the 800-meter event, taking fifth-place overall and bettering her season-best time by nearly three seconds, as she crossed the finish line tonight with a time of 2:25.52.
Utah will be back in action on Friday with one more "last chance" meet of the regular season, competing in the Portland Twilight. The meet will take place at Lewis & Clark College, with field events beginning at 11 a.m. PT and running events slated to start at 3:30 p.m. PT.
