SALT LAKE CITY - Utah Softball Head Coach
Amy Hogue announced the addition of Charlee Pond for the 2020 season this afternoon.
Â
Pond spent her freshman season at Ohio University, primarily at second base. She started 41 games and hit .323 with 24 runs scored, five home runs and 23 RBI. She also slugged .528 and led the team with four triples.
Â
"Charlee is a talented player and maybe more importantly, a hard worker," Hogue said. "She is a solid middle infielder that provides us with more right-handed power at the plate. Her intangibles are another positive for our culture."
Â
Pond hails from Redondo Beach, Calif., and played at South Torrance High School while also suiting up in club and travel competition for Mizuno Pride, USA Athletics Porter, Cal Raiders, So Cal Athletics McNee, USA Athletics Rodgers and So Cal Athletics Briggs.
Â
The Coastal League Offensive Player of the Year was also named All-Area, All-Coastal League, All-Pioneer League, All -CIF and All-State during her time with the Spartans.
Â
The daughter of Todd and Margaret Pond, Charlee has four siblings, Kyle, Trevor, Luke and Natalie. She enjoys water sports, old cars, photography and literature.
Â
"I wanted to attend the University of Utah for many reasons," Pond stated. "I knew Utah was the school for me because I got a special feeling when I arrived on campus. The coaches, team and culture are absolutely amazing. I feel extremely blessed to have the opportunity to play with them in the Pac-12. I cannot wait to be a Ute and the journey to begin."
