SALT LAKE CITY – The No. 18 Utah volleyball team made quick work of the Colorado Buffalos in straight sets (25-11, 25-22, 25-23) to open up Pac-12 play in the Huntsman Center.
Â
Saige Ka'aha'aina-Torres spread the offense around as four attackers had at least nine kills with three of those having double-figure kills.
Â
Dani Drews led the way with 14 kills and 10 digs.
Kenzie Koerber also had a double-double on the night having 10 kills and 11 digs while hitting .444.
Â
In the first set, Utah raced out to a 7-0 lead forcing Colorado to use both of their timeouts extremely early. It didn't get much better from there as Utah took the early lead with a 25-11 first-set victory. The Utes hit .405 with 16 kills and one error.
Â
Colorado grabbed a 6-1 lead early in the second, but Utah responded to come back and tie it at 12. The Buffalos maintained control until a 5-0 run to go up 20-18. Colorado kept it to within one point, but
Zoe Weatherington got back-to-back kills to push Utah's lead to 2-0 in the match.
Â
Utah seemingly had control in the third set after going up 9-3 and 19-12, but Colorado got on a roll and ran off a 10-1 run behind some blocks to go up 22-20. The Utes used a timeout and tied things back up at 22 to weather the Buffalos run. Trailing by one, Utah scored the last three to seal the Pac-12 opener in front of its fans.
Â
Ka'aha'aina-Torres had 40 assists to go with seven digs and two blocks. Koerber also had three aces to go along with her double-double.
Â
The win moves Utah to 9-3 on the year and 1-0 in the Pac-12. This was their seventh sweep of the season.
