LOGAN, Utah – Utah improved their record to 4-0 this season sweeping Utah State (25-22, 25-17, 25-19) in the Utes first road match of the season on Tuesday, September 3.
It was Utah's defense that was the difference once again as they held the Aggies to just an .048 hitting percentage and only 20 kills in the three sets.
Dani Drews led the team with 14 kills and had 10 digs for her second double-double in a row. Freshman
Leah Schmidt also had a good night finishing the match with 10 kills hitting .316.
Utah went on an 8-0 run in the middle of the first set to grab a 10-point lead up 18-8. The Aggies made a late run, but the deficit was too much to overcome as the Utes closed it out 25-22.
In the second set, Utah led by as many as 13 before going up 2-0 after a kill from
Berkeley Oblad finished off the set 25-17.
The third set was a little closer, but Utah was alway in control winning four straight points to earn their third sweep of the season.
Oblad had 10 kills as well hitting .438.
Saige Ka'aha'aina-Torres had 39 assists.
Utah will be on the road again, but not go far this weekend as they play in the Wolverine Classic at Utah Valley starting Friday, September 6. They will play UC Davis at 10 a.m. and then Portland State at 5 p.m. before finishing the tournament off with the host at 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 7.
