ASPEN, Colo. – Addison Dvoracek and
Eirin Engeset finished on the podium for the Utah ski team as the Denver Invitational opened with the giant slalom races. The Utes lead the team standings after day one of the Invite.
Utah holds a 23-point lead in the team standings over Colorado, 176 to 153. Montana State is third with 145 points with Westminster (134) and Denver (129) rounding out the top five.
Engeset also finished third in yesterday's RMISA giant slalom qualifier, giving her eight career podium finishes.
Sona Moravcikova finished sixth, improving one spot from yesterday's run.
Katie Parker tied her career-best finish with a ninth-place finish.
Katie Vesterstein did not finish her first run. Utah was the only school with three skiers in the top 10 for 83 points in the race, second behind Colorado's 85 points.
Utah was the top-scoring team in the men's race with 93 points, also the only team to place three skiers in the top 10. Dvoracek earned his 11
th career podium finish with a second-place run for his best finish of the year, running the second-fastest second run to jump from fourth after the first run.
Joachim Lien finished in the top five for the first time this season and the seventh time in his career. Freshman Gustav Vøllo earned the best finish of his career with a seventh-place run, jumping from 15
th after the fourth-fastest second run.

th with
Fredrik Maurstad 23
rd while
Huston Philp did not start.
"I'm just coming back off a messed up ankle and trying to get some confidence back these past few races," Dvoracek said. "Today I had two clean runs and some solid skiing and it was sweet to be back on the podium."
The Denver Invitational continues with the slalom races on Sunday, Jan. 12.
