SALT LAKE CITY – University of Utah football snapper Keegan Markgraf has been named a semifinalist for the 2020 Patrick Mannelly Award, given each year to the best long snapper in the country.
Markgraf is one of 10 semifinalists for the Patrick Mannelly award, which debuted last year. Three finalists will be announced on Tuesday, Dec. 22 and invited to participate remotely in the award ceremony on Jan. 9, 2021.
The Patrick Mannelly Award benefits Bernie's Book Bank, a non-profit that provides books for underserved communities in the Chicago area. Markgraf is one of two student-athletes from the Pac-12 on the semifinalist list, joining USC's Damon Johnson.
Markgraf has taken 139 career snaps as Utah's starting snapper, including 55 punts, 19 field goals and 64 PATs. He has been a part of 22 snaps this season with the Utes going 4-for-4 on field goals and 8-of-8 on PATs with 10 punts.
Markgraf first made his appearance for the Utes in 2018 after transferring from Central Michigan, handling all PATs and field goals for Matt Gay's record breaking year where he led the Pac-12 and finished third in the country in field goals made. He also took over long snapping duties in 2018 for Mitch Wishnowsky's All-America season when he was named a Ray Guy Award finalist.
Markgraf is also an outstanding part of the team off the field, graduating in the spring of 2020 with a degree in economics with a 3.829 GPA after earning CoSIDA Academic All-District and Pac-12 All-Academic Team honors. He is currently pursuing a Master's in economics.
