FIRST PITCH
The Utes went 1-3 in their opening weekend and will head to Corpus Christi, Texas this weekend to play in the Kleberg Bank College Classic.
Utah will take on the hosts on Friday, Missouri on Saturday and Kansas State on Sunday. The Utes played Kansas State last season in San Diego and the Wildcats were victorious 6-4.
KRAMER CLEARS THE BASES
Shea Kramer hit .474 through the first four games and has seven RBI.
The junior totaled nine hits in the opening weekend including a 4-5 outing in the win over UC Davis. Kramer cleared the bases with his first career grand slam. He had two more RBI in the ninth inning giving him a career high six for the game.
He followed that up with three more hits on Sunday.
KELLY RETURNS
Redshirt sophomore
Justin Kelly returns after sitting out the 2019 season with an elbow injury. Kelly got the first start of the season on Friday night and pitched 5.1 innings only allowing two runs on seven hits.
In his freshman season, he appeared in 12 games out of the bullpen and held a 6.66 ERA. In 24.1 innings pitched, he had 23 strikeouts.
NEWCOMERS HIT HOME RUNS IN FIRST CAREER GAMES
Brock Rudy and
Vinny Zavolta both hit home runs in their first games at Utah.
Rudy was the designated hitter in the third game at UC Davis and in his third plate appearance, he hit a two-run homer on a 2-0 count to cut the Aggies lead in half.
Against Saint Mary's, Zavolta started in center field and bat leadoff. In the first at bat of the game, he hit a home run to give Utah an early lead.
KIERNAN STARTS HOT
Along with Kramer having eight hits,
Jayden Kiernan also totaled eight hits in the opening series. He started the season having three hits in the first two games and then followed that up with two hits in the series finale.
Kiernan is hitting .381 and has three RBI and has scored four runs.
