SALT LAKE CITY - Off to a phenomenal start this season, the Ute duo of senior
Whitney Hekking and sophomore
Madison Tattini came as the nation's No. 19-ranked doubles team in the latest ITA poll that was released on Wednesday. Hekking and Tattini have played in the top doubles spot all season and are 6-0 to lead the team.Â
The spring season for the pair of Utes has been highlighted by the upset of the nation's then-ranked No. 3 duo from Central Florida. Tattini and Hekking downed the pair 6-3 to help push the Utes in a near team upset as UCF was ranked No. 12 in the nation at the time of the match. The Utes have established themselves as a force on the doubles court, also picking up wins against the top doubles teams from Southern Utah, Montana, Minnesota, and Ole Miss.Â
Including fall play, Hekking and Tattini are 14-2 overall with one of the two losses coming from a ranked duo from UNLV. The pair earned the doubles title at the UNLV Invitational in the fall, while reaching the semifinals of the ITA Mountain Region Championships. Following their stellar fall run as a duo, Tattini and Hekking came in ranked No. 24 in the final fall ITA poll. After a short winter break, the Utes have picked up where they left off and continue to rise in the rankings.Â
Tattini and Hekking, along with the rest of the Ute squad will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 15 when the team travels to Irvine, Calif. to take on UC Irvine.Â
