SALT LAKE CITY – Alyssa Barrera has announced she will return for another season of Utah Softball in 2021

"I love being a Ute and I am proud to represent this program," Barrera said. "When I first set foot on campus, I wanted to accomplish everything possible in this uniform. There is no place I would rather be. Utah is my home."

The two-time NFCA All-Region and All-Pac-12 performer has started every game of her Utah career. A two-time Pac-12 All-Academic honoree, she will graduate this spring with a degree in communications and an emphasis in strategic communications. She is also minoring in business administration and will attend graduate school at Utah in 2020-21

"I am very excited about remaining here at Utah," Barrera added "I get a chance to fulfill my athletic and academic goals. I could not be more thrilled to have another chance to compete with the best group of teammates and this great incoming class."

Amy Hogue said " She has been our top hitter for several years, and I can safely say, she has been the most consistent hitter we have ever had. Â With such a young team next year, we will lean on her to lead the way."

Barrera ranks fourth in Utah history with a career .367 batting average. This season, she was hitting .421 with a .492 on-base percentage while slugging .649. She was one of only two players in the Pac-12 to be ranked in the top 20 in those individual categories, as well as, runs scored.

After the 2020 season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the NCAA granted all spring athletes an additional year of eligibility. Barrera will take advantage of the opportunity with full support from the Utah coaching staff, Director of Athletics
Mark Harlan and University president Dr. Ruth Watkins.
