Buffalo, N.Y. – Utah running back Zack Moss was selected by the Buffalo Bills in the third round with the 86th overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft today.
Moss is the ÂÂfourth running back drafted by the NFL during Kyle Whittingham's tenure as head coach and is the first Ute tailback drafted since Joe Williams went in the fourth round to San Francisco in 2017. Moss is the highest drafted Utah running back since Del Rodgers was taken 71st overall to the Green Bay Packers in 1982.
Moss is the first Utah running back drafted since Joe Williams was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers as the 121st overall pick in 2017. He is the fourth Ute in school history to be taken by Bills and the first since 2003 (Lauvale Sape, 6th round). Â
A running back that can truly do it all, Moss became the first player in Utah history with three 1,000-yard seasons (1,416 in 2019, 1,096 in 2018, 1,173 in 2017, also breaking six school records his senior year in 2019.
The Miami, Fla., native holds the Utah record in career carries (712), rushing yards (4,167), 100-yard rushing games (18), rushing touchdowns (38), all-purpose plays (778) and total touchdowns (41), tying two more (career 200-yard rushing games, 2; season rushing touchdowns, 15) to firmly secure his place in the Utah record books.
During his senior campaign in 2019, Moss was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year and All-Pac-12 first-team, also earning All-America nods after starting in 12 games with 235 carries for 1,416 rushing yards and 15 rushing touchdowns. He wrapped up his senior season ranked in the top-15 in the FBS and top-five in the Pac-12 in all-purpose yards per game (138.8), rushing touchdowns, total rushing yards and rushing yards per game (108.9).
He racked up eight 100-yard rushing games in 2019 that also included his second-career 200-yard game, going off for 203 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries against Arizona. One of his 100-yard rushing games included the third-longest rush in program history and the sixth-longest run in the FBS in 2019 as he broke free for a 91-yard rushing touchdown against Oregon State on Oct. 12.
Fans got to see a different side of Moss in 2019 as well as he finished the year with 28 receptions for 388 yards (13.9 ypc) and two receiving touchdowns. He had career highs in receiving yards in back-to-back games, catching three passes for 78 yards against Arizona State and three receptions for 89 yards against California.
In all, Moss finished his career at Utah with 4,752 all-purpose yards, which ranks second all-time at Utah.
