Bradlee Anae Drafted In Fifth Round To Dallas Cowboys

DALLAS, Texas. – Utah defensive end Bradlee Anae was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the fifth round with the 179th overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft today.
Anae is the seventh defensive lineman drafted by the NFL during Kyle Whittingham's tenure as head coach and is the second Ute defensive line squad member drafted this year, joining Leki Fotu, who went in the fourth round to Arizona Cardinals. Â
Anae is the second defensive end taken in the NFL draft in the last three season with Kylie Fitts going in the sixth round in 2018. He is also the highest drafted defensive end since 2000 when John Frank was taken by Philadelphia as the No. 178 overall pick.
He is the fourth Ute in school history to be taken by the Cowboys and the first since 1973 when Marv Bateman was taken by Dallas in the third round.
Anae, who impressed NFL scouts at the both the Reese's Senior Bowl and NFL Scouting Combine, was a 2019 consensus All-American for the Utes and the 2019 Morris Trophy Winner. He is a two-time first-team all-conference defensive end, leading Utah in sacks for three straight seasons.
He wrapped up his collegiate career with school records in career sacks (30.0), sack yards (210), tackle for loss yards (245), also ranking fourth all-time in career tackles for loss (41.5) and eight in forced fumbles (6).
He played in 47 games in a Utah uniform, earning the starting nod in 38 while racking up 135 total tackles that included 41.5 tackles for loss and 30.0 sacks. His senior season was one to remember, starting all 14 games while ranking in the top-10 in the FBS in sacks (13.0), which also tied for fifth in program history in single-season sacks.
The Laie, Hawaii native finished his senior year with 41 total tackles and 14.0 tackles for loss, with his TFL number tying for second in the Pac-12 in 2019. He earned Pac-12 Defensive Lineman of the Week twice, also earning Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week for his three-sack performance against Arizona State on Oct. 19.
