SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah women's tennis program set the new academic standard for Utah Athletics this spring after combining for a 3.894 team GPA, which is the highest ever by a single Ute team in history. On the way to setting the department record, the team GPA of 3.894 bested the previous women's tennis program record GPA of 3.699 set in Fall 2010.
"I am really proud of this group with how well they were able to deal with this adverse time and use it to focus on their academics," said head coach
Ric Mortera. "This speaks volumes not only to this team's drive to succeed in all aspects of their lives, but also to the incredible academic support system we have here."
The women's tennis team landed every student-athlete on the Honor Roll (3.0 or above) and had seven of the nine student-athletes make the Dean's List (3.5 or above).
Led by women's tennis this spring and strong efforts across all programs, Utah collectively achieved the highest departmental GPA in history. Women's tennis was one of 14 Utah Athletics teams that set a record team GPA in the Spring 2020 semester.
