NEDERLAND, Colo. – The Utah women's alpine skiers kicked off the first day of the CU Invitational in the slalom and had a successful day led by freshman Madison Hoffman.
Hoffman won the first race in impressive fashion posting a 42.88 in the first run and a 47.33 in the second run to earn her first race win in college.
"It felt really good to put down two solid runs and get the win in the first race," Hoffman said. "It's nice knowing that all the hard work in training is paying off."
Katie Vesterstein finished in 11
th place in the first race and Michelle Kervén got 16
th in the first place.
In the second race, Vesterstein got on the podium finishing in third immediately followed by Hoffman in fourth. Kervén was the third member of the team to finish in the top coming in eighth.
With these strong runs, the team sits in second place only 16 points behind Westminster going into tomorrow.
On Tuesday, the men will ski two slalom races.
