NEDERLAND, Colo. – It was the men's turn to run the slalom and had a good day led by
Bjorn Brudevoll, who claimed his first win with Utah.
The races got moved up today due to the chance of high winds in the afternoon and winds did kick up a little during the races, but Brudevoll still had runs of 43.39 and 44.12 to claim first in the first race.
"It felt really good to start the slalom season with a W," Brudevoll said. "It was a challenging second run, and I did not have the best feeling crossing the finish line, so when I heard I was in the lead, I was a little surprised. When my second run held all the way to win, it felt even better."
Gustav Vøllo came in 12
th place in the first race.
In the second race,
Wilhelm Normannseth led the Utes getting in third followed by Vøllo in seventh.
Tomas Birkner came in 14
th place
Huston Philp in 16
th.
"Not everyone finished all of the races, but it showed the strength of our team," head alpine coach
JJ Johnson said. "With Willy getting his first college podium, he was starting way back and made a huge move and then it was great for Bjorn to get the win. Tommy was very solid and always right in there. It just shows that anyone of our guys can win in a day and when we get everyone finishing we'll start stacking top-10s."
The Utes dropped in the team standings from second to third and sit 60.5 points behind Westminster.
The Nordic team will get things going this weekend with races at Soldier Hollow with races Sunday, January 17 and Monday, January 18. Sunday will be the 5/10K Freestyle and Monday will be the 15/20K Classic.
