SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah swimming and diving team returns to the Ute Natatorium to host Colorado Mesa on Saturday, Jan. 23. Action between Utah and Colorado Mesa will begin at 9:30 a.m. MT.
The women swimmers will kick off the competition in Salt Lake City at 9:30 a.m. MT, while the divers will begin competition at approximately 11 a.m. MT. While the divers begin competition, the men swimmers will begin warmups and are slated to begin racing at 12 p.m. or approximately one hour after the women swimmers have cleared the pool. The Utah women traveled to Pullman, Wash. for the first dual meet of the 2021 season. The Utes broke three Gibb Pool records en route to downing the Cougars 140-118.
Emma Broome broke the pool record in the 100 back after finishing with a time of 54.37 seconds. The 200 medley relay team of Broome,
Sadie Edwards,
Emma Lawless and
Maddie Woznick broke the pool record with a time of 1:41.20, while Utah's 400 free relay team of Woznick,
Kayla Miller, Lawless and
Audrey Reimer broke the record with a 3:24.33. Utah won seven events against Washington State in the opening dual.
"Just so proud of the girls and the way they competed tonight" said head coach
Joe Dykstra. "We came up here and raced with a shorthanded roster, traveled all day right before the meet, but still managed to put up a few best times and broke three WSU pool records. I couldn't be prouder of the resiliency of this group."
The Utah divers were in action at the UCLA Diving Invite as well last weekend, highlighted by
Regan Caufield winning the platform dive and
Tony Chen finishing first on the 1m and 3m.
Jenner Pennock finished second on the 1m and
Lizzy DeCecco placed second on the 3m.
ON DECK
Utah swimming and diving will remain in Salt Lake City to continue the dual season against BYU next Friday and Saturday, Jan. 29-30. The Utes and Cougars will have the women's swim and dive compete Friday night at 5 p.m. MT, while the men's swim and dive athletes will go head-to-head Saturday morning at 11 a.m. MT at the Ute Natatorium. Utah will celebrate senior night for the women on Friday and the men on Saturday.
