MINTURN, Colo. – The Utah ski team clinched the win at the Denver Invitational after the Nordic team closed out a strong weekend of racing.
The alpine team had a great start and was second after their races, but Westminster doesn't have a Nordic team. The Utes ended up winning by 75 points after the Nordic portion of the race.
"Again, it was an outstanding weekend from the entire team," head Nordic Coach
Miles Havlick said. "The men's team decided to forego kick wax and double pole for the entire 10km hill course. Very impressive! Between races, the snow arrived and made for some tricky conditions in the women's race. Despite this, the altitude and the fatigue from the last races, the women continued to shine and made a statement once again with all starters finishing in the top 8!"
Today, the Utah women had five in the top eight of the 7.5K Classic.
Novie McCabe and
Sydney Palmer-Leger each got second and third and
Mariah Bredal finished off her strong weekend by getting fourth.
Karianne Moe and
Julia Richter finished right behind them in seventh and eighth.
On the men's side,
Samuel Hendry came in second place for the second day in a row.
Ola Jordheim came in fifth,
Bjørn Riksaasen came in seventh and
Noel Keeffe finished in 15
th.
"We have raced five times in the last eight days and we are bruised and battered," Havlick said. "Luckily, we will have some time for a little R&R at home before we are off again."
These races wrap up a busy two weeks for the Nordic team and now they will have a little break. Their next race will be Friday, February 5 in Aspen, Colorado. The alpine team will race again on Monday, February 8 at Snowbird.
