The Utah beach volleyball team fell to Colorado Mesa twice on Saturday, dropping a close first match 3-2 and then losing 5-0 in the finale.

Grand Junction, Colo.—The Utah beach volleyball team fell to Colorado Mesa twice on Saturday, dropping a close first match 3-2 and then losing 5-0 in the finale.

During the opener, Sage Patchell and Marissa Koch were able to win in straight sets on the first court 21-19 and 21-15. On court three, Camille Lee and Olivia Teerlink rebounded after dropping the first frame and capped the comeback with a 15-13 final-set victory. Mia Kowalczyk and Joana Saucedo Mondragon dropped a hard-fought two-set match 21-19, 22-20.

The Utes were swept in match No. 2 despite Patchell and Koch, Lee and Teerlink, as well as Keana Smalls and Grace Andrews falling in competitive three-set matches.

Utah travels to California for back-to-back days of competition in two weeks. The Utes head to Long Beach State University for a tri-dual, taking on Boise State and LBSU, on Friday, March 19. The Utes then head to Santa Clarita, Calif., to take on Loyola Marymount and Grand Canyon on Saturday, March 20.
