SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Football cornerback Clark Phillips III has earned his sixth All-America honor today by being named to the Associated Press All-America first-team while tight end Dalton Kincaid earned third-team recognition.
Phillips, a native of Lakewood, Calif., is Utah's 10th first-team AP All-American, also becoming the Utes' first defensive back to earn first-team honors from AP in program history. It also marks the 11th time in Utah history that a player has earned Consensus All-American and the first time a defensive back has earned the honor since 2006 (Eric Weddle).
He has 12 starts this season with 24 tackles (2.0 TFL, 1.0 sack) with six interceptions (142 return yards) and six pass breakups. The two-time All-Pac-12 selection is tied for the most interceptions this season among Power Five players (6), also tying for second overall in the country.
His 142 return yards also ranks fourth nationally with his two pick-sixes being the second-most by an FBS player this year. Eleven of his 12 passes defended came in Pac-12 regular season play, also tying for the conference lead.
In Utah's Homecoming victory over Oregon State this year, Phillips racked up a career-high three picks (one pick-six) against the Beavers, which ties as the most by a Power Five player in 2022. He earned national weekly awards from Chuck Bednarik, Jim Thorpe, PFF and Walter Camp for his performance against Oregon State, also being named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week.
Through the 12 games he has played in this season, Kincaid leads the team in receptions (70), receiving yards (890) and receiving touchdowns (8). He leads all FBS tight ends in receiving yards and receiving yards per game (77.3) with his eight touchdowns tying for the most among Power Five tight ends.
He has three games with over 100 yards receiving this season, including his career-high 16 catches for 234 yards against USC during the regular season. His 16 catches is the most by any player in the FBS this season with his 234 yards ranking as the most by an FBS tight end in 2022.
Kincaid also had seven catches for 107 yards and two touchdowns against Southern Utah and five receptions for 102 yards and a score at Colorado.
He has played in 55 career games in Division I football with 24 starts and is the active career leader among tight ends in the FBS with 2,484 receiving yards and 35 touchdowns. The first-team All-Pac-12 selection has 16 receiving touchdowns during his time at Utah, which is tied for 10th all-time.
