LAST TIME OUT
The Utes had a slow start to the game, going up 18-6 early on before UTSA responded with a 22-4 run to go ahead of the Runnin' Utes 28-22 with 7:09 left in the first frame. The veterans did not take kindly to it and got Utah out of the hole by halftime and send both teams into the locker room with the Utes on top 39-34.
Â
Utah came out of the gates in the opening minutes of the second half much more focused and jumped out to an 11-1 run to force a Roadrunner timeout (17:09). The onslaught from Utah continued the rest of the half with four players reaching double-figures – including a new career-high 27 points from
Branden Carlson and career-high 10 assists from
Rollie Worster.
Â
UP NEXT
The Runnin' Utes close out non-conference action next Wednesday, Dec. 21, to wrap up its "home-and-home" contract with #21/22 TCU inside Vivint Arena – home of the NBA's Utah Jazz. The Horned Frogs got the best of Utah last year at Dickies Arena (76-62). Todd Harris will have the call between the former WAC foes alongside Ben Braun on the Pac-12 Mountain telecast.
Â
LOOKING AHEAD
Utah will take a short holiday break before returning to The Hill to prepare for the full slate of Pac-12 play beginning with its road swing to the Bay Area – which was Utah's lone series sweep last year on the road in conference play. The Runnin' Utes first battle California on Thursday, Dec. 29, before facing off against the Stanford Cardinal on Saturday, Dec. 31.
