FROM THE GUN
Emily Venters and
Keelah Barger will kick off the 2022-23 indoor season for Utah as the pair head to the campus of Boston University for the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season-Opener. The two toe the line alongside familiar faces on Saturday in the 5000m race that will feature some of the top distance runners in the country just two weeks removed from the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
Â
Venters comes in with a PR time of 15:45.09 in the 5000m set back on Feb. 9, 2019, at the Husky Classic while her fastest time as a Ute came at the same meet last season (15:58.02). Venters' time last season was good for second all-time at Utah and was just shy of Grayson Murphy's program record. Barger's collegiate record in the 5000m was also set at the Husky Classic back on Feb. 15, 2020, with a mark of 16:54.84. Saturday's race will serve as Barger's first 5000m indoor race since picking up her PR in 2020.
Â
UP NEXT
Utah will have a much larger continent next week when it competes at the BYU Indoor Invitational (Dec. 8-10) inside Smith Fieldhouse. Utah will then take a winter break before starting back up again in the new year.
