SAN FRANCISCO – Utah's women's tennis player
Anastasia Goncharova has been named the Pac-12 Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Wednesday.Â
Â
Goncharova became the first Ute to earn this honor since Taylor Calton claimed this honor during the 2018 season.
Â
Goncharova went 2-0 in singles and 1-1 in doubles for the week. She improved to 9-0 in singles action and 8-1 in doubles this spring.Â
Â
Playing a non-conference match against Washington State, Goncharova played No. 4 singles. With the match tied at 3-3, she dropped set one 6-7 (6). She bounced back and took the second set, 6-1, to force a third set. In the third set, she won 6-3 to clinch the match for the Utes.Â
Â
She continued her winning ways against Minnesota as she and partner
Emily Dush won in No. 2 doubles 6-2. She continued to win in No. 4 singles on the season with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Vasia Karvouni. The win grew the best start in program history for the Utes.Â
