SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Volleyball downed the Oregon State Beavers in four sets (23-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-15) on Friday night behind a season-best 16.5 blocks and a career-high 17 kills from
Kamry Bailey.
Â
Oregon State scored five points in a row to take a 6-3 lead early in the first set. Utah played from behind until a 5-1 run capped off by an ace from
Viktoria Wahlgren tied the set 11-11. From there, the teams went back and forth with no team leading by more than two points. Utah once again tied the frame after
Allie Olsen connected on a kill, but a 3-0 run from the Beavers put the Utes behind 23-20.
Â
Oregon State earned its first set point two points later, 24-21. Out of a Utah timeout, the Beavers recorded a setting error to trim their lead to just 24-22, while
Emrie Satuala tallied a kill the next play after an Oregon State timeout. After yet another timeout from the Beavers, the visitors ended the set on their fourth set point to take the 25-23 win. Both teams hit above .400 in the opening sets with Satuala leading the efforts on Utah's side, recording four kills on five swings.
Â
The Utes and Beavers each recorded runs of four consecutive points to start the second set before the frame tightened up. Utah used another 4-0 run later on to extend its lead 19-16. Oregon State cut the score to 20-18, but the Utes finished the set on a 5-0 run to win 25-18.
Kamry Bailey posted five kills in the second set to lead the team, while the Utes posted five blocks as a team to limit Oregon State to a -.040 hitting percentage.
Â
Utah got off to a hot start in the third set and pushed ahead 6-1. The Beavers responded with a 4-0 run to cut the lead to just one point, but another 6-1 run for Utah out of a timeout pushed the lead out to 12-6. Utah earned its largest lead of the set after
Grace Hammond recorded a block to put the score, 17-9.
Â
Despite Oregon State trimming the deficit to just three points on two separate occasions, Utah was able to close out the set on a 4-1 run to win 25-19. The Ute blocking efforts continued to cause offensive struggles for the Beavers as Utah's 6.5 blocks made OSU hit .000 in the third set. Satuala, Bailey, and Olsen all tallied three blocks each.
Â
The Utes continued momentum from the third set into the fourth and stormed out to a 15-5 lead. The damage was done as Utah only allowed Oregon State to pull within seven points before the Utes went on to win the dominant set, 25-15.
Â
Along with Bailey's 17 kills,
Kamryn Gibadlo and Satuala each added nine kills.
Viktoria Wahlgren dished out 25 assists, while
Grace Hammond added 14 assists.
Rianne Vos posted 10 digs and a career-high four aces, and
Vanessa Ramirez posted a team-best 14 digs. Leading the season high blocking night was Satuala and Olsen, who each recorded eight blocks.
