SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah men's basketball team defeated Westminster 84-61 on Wednesday inside the Jon M. Huntsman Center as part of its lone exhibition game.
The Runnin' Utes took a little bit to get going to start the game leading just 16-13 at the 11:48 mark. However, the offense picked things up shortly after and went on a 27-16 run to end the half.
Cole Bajema led all scorers with 12 points on 3-of-4 shooting in the first game – including a perfect 5-for-5 effort from the charity stripe.
Hunter Erickson then jump-started the Utah offense scoring 11 of his 16 points in nearly a five-minute span midway through the second half knocking down back-to-back triples followed by a bucket two possession later. The offense didn't skip a beat after that and continued to rain threes down on the Griffins before closing the game out.
Utah's newfound depth was on display with four players in double-figured led by Bajema's 18 points and 4 assists. Erickson was right behind him with 16 points off the bench to go with 3 assists and 3 steals on 6-of-7 shooting – including a perfect 4-for-4 night from downtown.
Lawson Lovering added 15 points of his own on 6-of-8 shooting while
Branden Carlson added 10 points.
